EXTENDED PROFILE
» APPEARANCE: Clarke is a blonde female in her late teens. She's grown up as one of the few privileged, though her time on the Earth has probably given her a bit more muscle. She's average height. By now she probably has quite a few scars.
» PERSONALITY:
Clarke Griffin is one of the few privileged people among the sky people. Her mother was a doctor and a member of the Council, the governing body on the Ark, and her father was an engineer. She grew up among morally sound parents who taught her the goodness in humanity. Like her mother once said the needed to make sure they deserved to survive.

Clarke is from the future where the world was considered uninhabitable after nuclear war. The nations of the world sent out space stations to save their people, eventually the space stations linked up and became the Ark. They were supposed to wait it out longer, but eventually it becomes clear that the Ark is dying.

And this is the atmosphere she's been raised in. It may not have harvested the flight or fight mechanism as strongly as some of the others from the 100 sent down to the earth, but survival is what drives everyone. There is a very real chance that anyone can die or everyone can die. And ultimately that is what leads Clarke to becoming one of the two leaders. While Bellamy is clearly more liked in the beginning, trying to rule without rules, eventually it is Clarke's level head and drive for all of their survival that makes her just as capable of leading.

She challenges Bellamy in every way at first. He is her antitheses, in favor of anarchy while she knows that they stand on the precipice of knife. Bellamy doesn't care what happens to them all so long as the Ark doesn't come down and charge him with trying to kill the Chancellor. Meanwhile Clarke is trying to keep them all alive, leading expeditions to try and get to Mt. Weather as well as telling them they need to set up a camp. She challenges him when she needs to, because ultimately she lives by the code that humanity needs to deserve to survive.

She opposes the guns that Bellamy wants to bring to camp at first, but then realizes that as much as she wants this to be peaceful, she also needs to be realistic. She slowly changes on a case by case basis. She is fiercely loyal and stubborn.

Her longest friend was Wells Jaha, the son the Chancellor. Her entire stay in the juvenile facility and most of the time down on the ground, she believed him to have turned in her father which ultimately led to his death and her arrest. She repeatedly told him she hated him, holding onto that until she realized the truth: that her mother had turned them in. And then the anger gets transferred to her. She is a woman of conviction.

But even survival has its way of making an exception, and that is because of the closeness she has with Finn. He fits nicely with her, a boy with his own convictions, but when he nearly dies, she allows another man to be tortured for information on healing him. She also helps when Raven and Monty rig the drop ship to explode some fuel and kill nearly 300 grounders. They have their own justification though. At least to her. Finn was dying, and the grounders were attacking. This isn't to say they aren't wrong, but ultimately survival is the most important, and her loyalty to Finn means she can't lose him either.

She doesn't always abide by the rules. She did help her father try and leak the information that the Ark was dying, but in this case it was for the greater good. She knows some rules are meant to be broken and that the reasons behind the rules are more important than the rules themselves. But life is also vastly different on the ground. She has more power as one of the two in control, and quickly she finds out that mob mentality does not work when Murphy nearly gets killed for the actions of another.

Because of this responsibility, Clarke tends to be the more serious one of the group. It balances Finn's once carefree attitude, Bellamy's dislike for rules, and his sister's recklessness. She leads them as best as she can though she feels the wait very acutely when something doesn't go well. She takes her responsibilities very seriously knowing how few the 100 are the longer they stay. It turns from trying to lead them to safety to trying to get them to survive daily especially with a clear grounder battle coming up.

She does try the diplomatic way first though, ever conscious of trying to do things the right way. Because she is the leader, and she knows they are a bunch of mostly untrained teenagers, she doesn't want her people to die. Not by starvation or by attack. While the others seem to want to fight, unwilling to back down, it is Clarke who has her sensibilities about her. She's the one that eventually tries to get them to leave the camp when all other roads are exhausted. And because she has built up this trust with everyone, even though Bellamy tries to get them to stay and fight, they seem to take Clarke's words over his.

Clarke never does stop though. She does first try and do what is right, what she thinks is the best course of action for everyone. She isn't perfect though, and the bonds she has forged with some of the 100 do take precedent, though she's hard pressed to admit it. She takes her role seriously, and does what she can in her own ways. She is leader of the group, and she can't stop thinking that way for a moment lest they all end up dead.
